Doula Training and Other Tidbits |
About Michele Nizza
Inspired by her own experience as an expectant mother, Michele immersed herself in study, determined to learn all she could about the changes that were occurring within her so as to fully prepare herself for motherhood and all of its resulting joys and challenges. In June of 2000, barely a year after the birth of her daughter, Michele—seeking to further cultivate her knowledge—became involved with a local doula organization. Motivated by her growing passion for the field, she undertook DONA’s (Doulas of North America, recently renamed DONA International) doula training and started her business as a Birth and Postpartum Doula in January 2001—all while continuing her full-time work in the publishing field. Nearly a year later, in December 2001, Michele was laid off from her publishing job. Michele decided to capitalize on the loss of her job by pursuing her birthing interests full-time. It was then that she was able to take massage therapy classes, becoming a Certified Massage Therapist, and attend a breastfeeding counseling training course to further expand her knowledge of touch and healing and enhance her ability to serve expectant mothers. It is through discovering her niche, her passion, and her joy that Michele is able to realize her purpose: to empower expectant parents by providing them with all of the necessary information and resources so that they can make informed decisions about what is right for their families. |
