Therapeutic Massage

Certified Massage Therapists are not licensed or regulated by the state of California.

Swedish
Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. Michele uses a combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive and tapping movements. The many benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.

Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a finger-pressure technique utilizing the traditional acupuncture points of Oriental healing. Similar to acupressure, shiatsu concentrates on unblocking the flow of life energy and restoring balance in the meridians and organs in order to promote self-healing. Michele applies pressure with the finger, thumb, palm, elbow or knee to specific zones on the skin located along the energy meridians. The treatment brings about a sense of relaxation while stimulating blood and lymphatic flow. The benefits of this treatment may include pain relief and a strengthening of the body's resistance to disease and disorder.

Prenatal and Postpartum
Prenatally, specific techniques can reduce pregnancy discomforts and concerns and enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of both mother and fetus. Skilled touch facilitates labor, shortening labor times and easing pain and anxiety. In the postpartum period, prenatal massage helps to rebalance structure, physiology and emotions of the new mother, and may help her to bond with and care for her infant.  Michele uses the Body Support System to support the mother during her massage.

Massage prices
1 hour massage - $85
1 1/2 hour massage - $125

Induction
For those women who are post-date or whose care provider is discussing the possibility of induction, Induction Massage can be used to try to avoid medical interventions such as pitocin or manual breaking of the bag. Various points on your body will be stimulated during the massage. There is no guarantee of labor starting, but you’ll feel relaxed and more focused on your upcoming birth. I recommend two sessions within a couple of days to enhance the experience. Breathing techniques will be used and encouraged.

Fees:
$300 for (2) two-hour sessions
$175 for (1) two-hour session
